Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Factors in the Manganese Ore Value Chain

The report delineates the findings of extensive research on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors and initiatives within the manganese ore and beneficiation value chain. The study aimed to pinpoint pertinent factors at each stage of the value chain, encompassing exploration, mine development, manganese ore mining, and ore beneficiation, with particular emphasis on regional comparisons. Furthermore, the study sought to collect data on mitigation strategies and best practices. ESG factors underwent evaluation utilizing sustainability schemes for mineral resources developed by Germany’s Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, renowned as one of the most comprehensive schemes available. Additionally, the report scrutinized various sustainability reporting initiatives, furnishing a comprehensive overview. It also illuminated how manganese compares to other metals markets concerning ESG risks. Moreover, it assessed ESG issues across different segments of other manganese value chains, such as Mn alloys or Mn chemicals. Lastly, the research explored potential threats and opportunities associated with evaluating ESG factors in the manganese ore value chain.
