On September 17 to 19, 70 international delegates from 11 countries gathered in Yinchuan, Ningxia province, China, for the IMnI Technical & HSE Workshop, hosted this year by IMnI Member Ningxia Shengyan.
After visiting 2 Manganese plants (Ningxia Shengyan and Ningxia Tianyuan Manganese), technical discussions were held on several topics including improvement of Manganese furnace efficiency, reduction of dust emission during casting, and use of SiMn slag, best practices on environment protection, reduction of energy consumption and protection of workers, with contributions from Manganese alloy producers in Africa, Australia, Europe, Malaysia, China and South America. Eramet made a presentation on the different benefits of low-carbon ferro-manganese and manganese metal (EMM), South32 presented on how to efficiently protect workers at Manganese alloy plants, and IMnI HSE Manager Dr. Brandon Clide presented some insights on the kind of personal protection equipment (PPE) that should be used at a Manganese production facility.
The workshop delegates also benefitted from several networking events, including a networking dinner sponsored by Ningxia Shengyan on September 18.
