Mn slag chemical characteristics

IMnI, in partnership with Envitop, conducted a worldwide study on ferromanganese (FeMn) and silicomanganese (SiMn) slags across the EU, South Africa, Malaysia, Gabon, USA, Brazil, Mexico, China, and India. Completed in May 2025, the project comprised three phases:

  • Phase 1 – Manganese Slag Chemical Characteristics (Report completed in Oct 2024): High manganese content and very low leachability support potential reclassification of SiMn slag as a product.

  • Phase 2 – Possibilities for Manganese Slag Utilization (Report completed in Apr 2025): Sustainable applications identified, including use in construction and earthworks, reducing landfill dependency and CO₂ emissions.

  • Phase 3 – Metal Recovery Study (Report completed in May 2025): Explored manganese recovery, highlighting challenges and offering case-by-case feasibility guidance.

Guided by global experts, the reports provide comprehensive insights into Mn alloy slag management, supporting sustainable practices and circular economy initiatives for industry stakeholders.
