The Volkswagen Group are committed to the electric transformation of the company, with virtually 100% of vehicles in the world’s core markets targeting climate neutrality by 2040. Key to achieving this are the internal battery supply and a comprehensive infrastructure, which allows rapid and simple charging.
Presented in the first Power Day, the Group technology roadmap focuses on significantly reducing the complexity and cost of the battery in order to make the electric car attractive and viable for as many people as possible. At the same time, the Group is aiming to secure the supply of battery cells beyond 2025. In Europe alone, six gigafactories with a total production capacity of 240 GWh are to be established by 2030. This places huge requirements of all battery raw materials, of which manganese is a crucial component.
