IMnI 2025 HSE Highlights: Advancing Sustainability, Safety, and Scientific Leadership

As we look back on 2025, we are proud to highlight a year marked by major IMnI-funded projects and sustained progress in delivering actionable value for our Members โ€” whether they are manganese producers or downstream users.

  1. Key Projects Delivered in 2025

๐Ÿ”น Manganese Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) Update โ€“ Kick-off in March

We launched the update of the 2021 LCA for eight Mn products, incorporating new primary data that covers 30% more production sites. The updated LCA will support environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and benchmarking. A first draft is expected in February 2026, with completion targeted for June 2026.

๐Ÿ”น Manganese Alloy Slag Study: From Waste to Resource โ€“ May

This study examined FeMn and SiMn slags, assessing chemical properties, potential reuse in construction, and metal recovery opportunities. It offers practical guidance and best practices for sustainable slag management.

๐Ÿ”น Updated Product Safety Sheets for 17 Manganese Products โ€“ June

We revised SDSs and SISs to reflect regulatory changes and REACH requirements, ensuring accurate and compliant product safety information.

๐Ÿ”น Study on Endocrine Effects of Manganese Products โ€“ July

A scientific review of manganeseโ€™s potential endocrine activity resulted in a peer-reviewed article showing no evidence of a causal link in humans. This provides a solid and credible reference point for regulators and stakeholders.

๐Ÿ”น HSE Webinar: Transforming Manganese โ€“ November

Our webinar brought together around 40 participants to discuss sustainability, regulatory developments, and pathways to low-carbon manganese production โ€” fostering guidance, dialogue, and collaboration.

  1. Monthly HSE & Regulatory Affairs Newsletters

Our newsletters continue to deliver up-to-date insights on manganese-related HSE topics, new scientific findings, and global regulatory developments that impact the industry directly or indirectly.

  1. 3. Collaboration and Partnerships

IMnIโ€™s HSE initiatives benefit greatly from strong collaboration with:

๐Ÿค the Manganese Interest Group (our US partner),

๐Ÿค the CRM Alliance and ICMM,

๐Ÿค and other commodity and mining associations worldwide.

These partnerships help advance shared knowledge, align best practices, and promote high sustainability standards across the global manganese value chain.
