Khwelamet, a subsidiary of Khwela Capital jointly owned by Menar Capital and Ntiso Investment Holdings, is a manganese smelter complex located in Meyerton, south of the Gauteng Province in South Africa. The company is refurbishing the complex, with plans to gradually restart production in support of economic development and industrialisation in South Africa.

Widely recognised as one of the largest ferromanganese smelters in the world, Khwelamet’s revival will enable the production of approximately 250,000 tons of ferromanganese alloy per annum. Manufacturing options include producing high carbon ferro manganese and medium carbon ferro manganese alloys from existing electric arc furnaces and an oxygen-blown converter. The company is also exploring innovative technologies to reduce electricity consumption and generate its own power.

With established logistics and power infrastructure, the project supports the group’s ambition to develop a vertically integrated manganese business. It also contributes to job creation, regional revitalisation, and demonstrates the role of collaboration between the public and private sectors in driving economic recovery. The company is committed to operating in line with the principles of sustainability, with a strong focus on meeting best-practice standards in health, safety and environmental management.
