The conference theme was ambitious:  “Looking to The Future: Scenarios for 2025”. Speakers addressed their subjects (ranging from the economy, the developing world, Mn industry, environmental & health issues…) by proposing possible scenarios of what could happen over the next 20 years.

In addition to the Conference, IMnI’s South African members hosted two days of technical tours prior to the conference (June 9th & 10th). Participants chose between four destinations: Samancor’s Metalloys plant, Assmang’s Cato Ridge plant, a Manganese Metal Company's electrolytic Mn metal plant in Nelspruit and a trip to the Kalahari to visit two mines: Mamatwan (Samancor) and new Nchwaning3 (Assmang).

The Theme of the technical tours was “Environment and Safety Standards & How Host Companies Address Them”. This theme, along with the opportunity to visit state-of-the-art works, was of particular interest to companies interested in improving their own environmental and safety standards.
